Fighting! (Soldier)

Fighting!

By Soldier

War is a complex matter. Sometimes, battles are fought externally; against a clear and common enemy, against crises with an external origin. Sometimes, battles are fought internally; against each other. Our battle currently has gone beyond being against each other and has become one against fear, indecisiveness, doubt, and hopelessness.

Oddly enough, the turning point in the battle was a previously anticipated external crisis. Which is not unusual. An external crisis can force united action. There’s no time for internal conflict when external matters take precedence. This was true in our case even if it began with a period of hysterical amusement at our own expense.

As was previously discussed in our post ‘Insidious’, depression had consumed and overtaken us, for no single specific reason. Nobody of our number was listening and nobody was in a position to follow my lead back into the light. Darkness had overwhelmed us. It happens and the only way back is time and determination.

The roof leaked.

A leaking roof was the catalyst for our return. That insistent drip from the corner of the room after a series of ‘handymen’ had failed to isolate and repair the problem forced us into a realization that life simply goes on and crying about it achieves nothing. We began to laugh, admittedly hysterically at first, and then with gathering momentum at an awareness of our own foolishness. The roof leaked and we came together in our laughter and determined to join hands and work together for a come-back.

And here we are.

There is no quick and simple resolution. There is no ‘wake up and all will be well’. We will be forced to fight long and hard in order to both regain and make ground but the bottom line is that we ARE fighting. Life is too short for either compromise or surrender and one life is all we have. It’s on us to make the most of it. Nobody owes us a thing and nobody but us is to blame if we don’t use every resource at our command to achieve every goal we aspire to.

Undoubtedly, we will stumble and fall again. And we’ll get up, brush ourselves off, and carry on. Because that’s what fighters do. We get up and we carry on. To reach the end and to win the war. Even if that war is against ourselves.

Don’t ever give up hope. Don’t ever quit. If somebody throws you a rope… grab it with both hands! If they offer you support, if they offer you additional troops and ammunition, take them! The Light is always there, glimmering somewhere in the distance, waiting, and all you have to do is seek it for it to eventually find you. The Universe has your back, even when you don’t.

Fight on!
